Instead of the smaller, they have gone for the bigger. For the very first time, they have introduced the “iPhone 14 Plus”. And the rest are the same, like iPhone 14,  and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to sources and a few experts, the Pro ones are better than the regular ones. Take the example of the iPhone 14 Pro, it’s a bit pricey but in terms of performance, it beats all the other variants.

Overview of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro

The iOS 16 operating system is pre-installed on the Apple iPhone 14 Pro smartphone. It has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina XDR Mini-LED LCD screen with a 1248 x 2778 pixel resolution.

An A15 Bionic chipset and a Hexa-core CPU power the smartphone. It contains 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. A 3200mAh Non-Removable Li-Ion battery powers the Apple iPhone 14 Pro , which runs iOS 16.

Display with Super Retina XDR

With its edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR OLED touch screen, the phone is easier to grasp in one hand and offers more room for your content. The screen’s 2796 x 1290 resolution and 460 ppi deliver exquisite detail, and True Tone and HDR technology deliver true-to-life color. You can see everything well even on a sunny day since the maximum brightness, which is 1600 nits for normal usage and 2000 nits for increased power, is 1600 nits. You can now experience smoother media content thanks to the 120 Hz refresh rate and ProMotion technology, which is especially enjoyable when playing games, viewing movies, or surfing social media.

Strong processor

The A16 Bionic processor contains a new five-core graphics processing unit for an incredible gaming and multimedia experience, a new 16-core Neural Engine, and a six-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores. This piece of technology has a processing speed of 17 trillion operations per second, yet it also uses extremely little energy because of its 5nm manufacturing technique.

Three-camera system

The incredible triple camera system found in the iPhone 14 Pro has a 48 MP primary camera with a quad sensor capable of shooting photographs in ProRAW format. Now, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with a 6-element lens and a 120-degree field of view may operate as a macro camera and take photographs with higher information in shadowy places. Even in low light, you can snap photos with a 3x optical zoom with the third camera’s 12 MP telephoto lens.

Action and cinematic modes for professionally produced videos

The new cinematic mode allows you to use seamless depth effects and focus transitions to automatically switch the emphasis from one subject to another while shooting video in 4K HD at 24 frames per second. Additionally, it anticipates the arrival of a fresh subject and adjusts its concentration accordingly. Even after the film has been captured, you may edit it because to the iPhone’s incredible computing power. Using this method, you can use your iPhone to produce more expert-looking material. Even video taken while you are moving or running is stabilized by the new action mode.

Here is a two-minute review of the iPhone 14 Pro

Apple iPhone 14 Pro price in Sri Lanka

The iPhone 14 Pro is essentially the same as the Pro Max, except for the size and battery life: almost all the characteristics, as well as performance, have found their way here. What is noticeable is that the 14 Pro is slightly cheaper and more compact.

In many ways, the iPhone 14 Pro is the best iPhone ever. It packs a bunch of new features and is the first (along with the Pro Max) iPhone without a notch in five years (it has some new stuff!), namely Always-on-Display, adaptive display refresh rate, and pixel binning for photos. which finally puts the iPhone 14 Pro series on par with its Android rivals.

Undoubtedly, some of these changes are similar to Apple’s game of catch-up with Android smartphones, but this is not entirely true. Apple adds features to the iPhone line when it believes they are ready and best suited to users. We get more zoom options on the cameras, but the zoom range remains the same. Pixel binning has appeared, but with four pixels per large pixel, and not, say, nine, as in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

iPhone 14 Pro Price in Sri Lanka

However, the iPhone 14 Pro is not without fresh innovations. First, it’s a somewhat risky decision to ditch the SIM slots in all US iPhone 14 devices and go with an eSIM instead.

We consider the new Dynamic Island to be the biggest innovation. It’s a good move to ditch the TrueDepth notch featured on the iPhone X, while retaining most of the technology that made Face ID, selfies, and AR on the front so convenient.

Thanks to the perfect combination of hardware and software, Dynamic Island floats a few millimeters from the top edge, is sensitive to touch and surprisingly comfortable to use. Watching it transform when a call comes in, for example, can make you look twice at it and wonder, “How did Apple do that?”

All in all, this is another excellent iPhone. It looks completely familiar, but at the same time, thanks to the new display technology – including exorbitant brightness and, finally, Always-on-Display, operating at a frequency of 1 Hz (when active, the screen can adaptively change the frequency from 10 to 120 Hz). Although Apple never gave us more than 3x optical zoom, it’s still enough to make the photos look great.

Thanks to the powerful and energy-efficient A16 Bionic processor, the smoothness and speed, as well as the battery life of the device, have increased.

Design

  • The design and materials of the case have not changed compared to last year’s device
  • Still the same Lightning
  • Innovative display

The design has not changed dramatically, but still has undergone some adjustments.

The back of the iPhone 14 Pro is almost a copy of the iPhone 13 Pro. Both have stainless steel bezels, frosted glass backs and a gorgeous screen protected by Apple’s Ceramic Shield, a transparent material containing ceramic crystals for added screen protection. The smartphone is still resistant to water and dust.

There are also slight differences in the body. The iPhone 14 Pro measures 71.5 x 147.5 x 7.85mm and weighs 206 grams, making it only slightly longer and thicker than the iPhone 13 Pro and only 2 grams heavier.

iPhone 14 pro

Apple did not waste time on trifles with the location of the buttons, leaving them all in their original places. The mic and speaker grill ports remain the same – and, yes, even the Lighting port. Someday the iPhone will have a USB-C port, but not today.

There is one noticeable visual difference for US buyers: there is no SIM card slot above/below the volume buttons. Instead, the entire iPhone 14 lineup in the US is eSIM-only.

On the back, we are greeted by three lenses (48 MP main, 12 MP ultra-wide, 12 MP 3x telephoto), as well as a LiDAR sensor. It all looks more or less like the iPhone 13 Pro (although the camera lenses all look a bit bigger). However, all lenses are now supported by the new sensors, and overall the cameras have undergone changes, including a new ambient light sensor and a redesigned flash.

Battery Life

  • Improved battery life compared to 13 Pro claimed
  • Good battery life with average use during the working day
  • Brighter screen may shorten battery life when used outdoors

Apple has not publicly announced the battery capacity of the iPhone 14 Pro. Instead, we were promised battery life that was only marginally better than the iPhone 13 Pro (Apple insisted on 23 hours of video playback instead of the 13 Pro’s 22 hours). This increase is most likely due to the efficiency of the 4nm A16 Bionic processor and the new adaptive refresh rate, rather than a larger battery.

The phone does not come with a power adapter, only a USB-C to Lightning cable, but if you purchase a dedicated 20W charger, Apple says you can drain the battery up to 50% in 30 minutes, and this is indeed confirmed when test.

The smartphone also supports MagSafe and Qi.

Display

  • 6.1″ Super Retina XDR display is brighter than ever
  • No more cutouts
  • Dynamic Island
  • always-on-display

iPhone 14 pro price in Sri Lanka

Apple did not increase the screen resolution of the iPhone 14 Pro; at 2556 x 1179, the display has only marginally more pixels than the iPhone 13 Pro. However, Apple has reimagined the display design, and this Super Retina XDR OLED is built around a brand new element – Dynamic Island.

This elongated shape, hovering just millimeters from the top of the screen (and under the razor-thin speaker grille), redefines iPhone iconography. Forget the static cutout. Dynamic Island lives up to its name, changing form and function depending on the app you’re using, the notifications and gestures you see. As if the physical element of the screen expands and contracts at will.

“Dynamic island” is a bit of a misnomer, as it includes a pill-shaped notch, a round notch, a black-colored island around both, and a few active pixels between the two physical screen notches.

Behind these cutouts is a new 12MP selfie camera with new autofocus capabilities (it takes great selfies), an IR sensor, and a backlight. The old TrueDepth module proximity sensor is now behind the display.

These cutouts never move, change shape, or get pixelated, but Apple managed to combine the physical black of the pixel-free areas, the black paint around them, and the live pixels around the “dynamic island” to create a fluid space. Part of this smoothness is due to the anti-aliasing that Apple has applied between these pixels, the pixels on the main screen, and the “dead” space of the island.

When registering a face for Face ID, Dynamic Island expands and reshapes to display a live image of the face being captured. When playing Apple Music, the “island” expands to show a real-time audio playback graph. If a call comes in, it also zooms in to show who is calling.

There is a possibility that you will smear the selfie camera with all these touches, but this was not noticed when using. It looks like the device’s oleophobic coating helps keep the lens smudge-free.

Dynamic Island is a thoughtful combination of hardware, software and interface design. It will work not only with native iPhone applications, but also with third-party ones.

The iPhone 14 Pro (and Pro Max) also has improved the ProMotion display’s adaptive refresh rate, starting at 10Hz and going all the way up to 120Hz. Slower refresh rates are used for more static content, while faster refresh rates are used for games and videos. This means the screen consumes less power when it doesn’t need to constantly refresh the image.

The 14 Pro line has another key refresh rate figure: 1Hz. It is designed for the new iPhone 14 Pro feature – Always-on-Display. It took Apple a long time to bring this kind of functionality to the iPhone. It’s worth saying that Apple has surpassed many of its competitors in this regard – this is one of the most beautiful and brightest always-on displays in existence at the moment. Although it lacks high brightness and most colors, it displays a lot of useful information, including widgets, images, media playback information, and so on.

Always-on-Display is activated automatically when the screen goes to sleep, and can also be turned on or off with a single press of the power/lock button. Under Settings/Display & Brightness, there is an option to turn it off completely. Pressing the display also wakes it up.

The iPhone 14 Pro display can be dim and slow (at 1Hz), but can be very bright when needed. The base brightness is 1,000 nits, but the Super Retina XDR OLED is capable of boosting up to 1,600 nits of HDR brightness and reaching 2,000 nits outdoors. However, please note that prolonged use of the maximum brightness level will result in reduced battery life.

Display rating (By LuxuryX): 5/5

Sound

Apple iPhone 14 pro

iPhone 14 Pro is equipped with stereo speakers, with one speaker located on the bottom edge of the smartphone, and the other along the top edge of the display.

These speakers are capable of reproducing very loud sound without noticeable distortion. They also support spatial audio. The combination of improved sound quality and surround sound effect will make you even more immersed in watching, for example, a series.

Camera

  • 48 MP quad-pixel
  • Updates to all three lenses
  • TrueDepth camera gets autofocus

iPhone 14 pro Camera

Lenses:

  • 48MP wide-angle (24mm f/2.8)
  • 12MP ultra wide (13mm f/2.2)
  • 12MP telephoto lens (77mm f/2.8).

These are new lenses and larger sensors, and the most interesting camera is undoubtedly the 48 MP. This is Apple’s first sensor with pixel binning, which means it captures images at 12MP resolution, with four pixels combined into one larger pixel for better low-light performance and color accuracy. This introduced Apple technology is certainly not groundbreaking – Samsung has been using pixel binning for a long time (and not only it), and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is equipped with a 108 MP camera with nine-pixel binning.

The 48MP sensor adds the ability to capture raw images at full resolution, although this option must be enabled in the camera settings – by default you won’t see raw format as an option in the camera app.

Raw images are uncompressed photos that give you more editing options in Adobe Photoshop and mobile apps like Adobe Lightroom (they can also be edited in the iPhone’s native camera app).

The ultra-wide camera still has a 120-degree field of view, but now has a larger sensor for better performance in low-light conditions.

When Apple added macro photography to the iPhone 13 Pro – initially without the ability to control when it was activated – not everyone liked it. Macro mode on the iPhone 14 Pro – which uses an ultra-wide-angle lens – is a different story. It clearly uses a sharper lens and the vastly improved lighting performance of the new sensor, which means close-up shots can look great.

Of course, I wish Apple would go beyond 3x optical zoom with a 12MP telephoto lens. It’s certainly a good camera, but with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, for example, you’ll be able to use 10x optical zoom.

Apple has another zoom option, although it’s actually part of the main sensor and not a separate lens; the center 12MP section of the new 48MP sensor is used for 2x zoom shots. This means you get 12MP pixel-binned shots and really beautiful 2x zoom photos from the same lens, and it’s also a great tool for shooting in portrait mode.

For video, Apple has updated Cinematic Mode to support 4K 30fps.

There’s also a new Action video mode that can be enabled by selecting the tiny running man icon in the top right corner of the camera app. The digital stabilization technology used in this mode works by cutting off excessive motion until a smooth object appears in the center of the video. The maximum resolution when shooting in Action mode is 2.8K, not 4K. Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t added 8K video capture.

Overall, this is a good imaging system, and this is no doubt partly due to the Photonic Engine, which uses Deep Fusion imaging technology and brings it to the forefront of the image row, applying it to uncompressed images, resulting in improved lighting and color reproduction.

Apple could have done more in the area of zoom and megapixels, but the iPhone 14 Pro still represents the start of something special in photography and remains one of the best camera phones on the market.

Camera rating (By LuxuryX): 4/5

Software and Features

iPhone 14 pro

An iPhone is nothing without its platform, and iOS 16, which comes with all iPhone 14 models, is more than just a decorative design. It changes some fundamental aspects of the iPhone.

One of the biggest changes is the new lock screen. In addition to being able to have multiple customizable lock screens – each of which can be associated with different focus settings – it has some really cool image segmentation technology.

Other updates include a search button on the home screen, editable and recoverable text messages, unsending email, capturing text from live video, and image segmentation that allows you to extract an object from almost any photo and place it in applications such as notes and messages.

Software rating (By LuxuryX): 4.5/5

Specifications and performance

  • A16 Bionic outperforms A15
  • 4nm process technology
  • 16 billion transistors
  • The system is perfectly able to work with RAM

Apple’s new processor is a solid upgrade from the A15 Bionic in the iPhone 13 Pro (which lives on in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus). A16 Bionic is a six-core processor (two performance and four power-efficient cores) with five graphics cores and 16 billion transistors, built on a 4-nm process technology.

Benchmarks are higher than the A15, but not by much. Based on Geekbench 5 results, it still outperforms Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, although it’s not noticeable in practice – the Samsung Galaxy S22 performs just as well as the new iPhone 14 Pro.
